Over time rallies went from being almost a lark to being a veritable drag race to finish (see my blog about “remember this is supposed to be fun”). And, also, as time has gone on, things have come full circle. Today a friend related how she could have probably ridden a longer distance at a

My bike packing buddy, Jody, was going through our packing list early on. Stove. Check. Tent. Check. Sleeping bag. Check. This went on for a while until she got to: Mascot. Huh? Seems Ms W carries a plastic squeak toy dog on all of her trips. And she insisted I needed one. Well, ok then.
It started after my fourth fall in 3 years. What are the best ways to keep upright? I knew after the Arizona tumble that clips would be a good starting place. It’s not that I’m afraid to clip in or inept at riding in them. However, after my fall, laying there in the shadows of

The fall happened so quickly. Around the curve on a downhill on chipseal pavement. My narrow road bike tire caught the edge of the rumble strip and down I went. Fortunately, the impact was to my left side. After nearly 10 weeks of being off that road bike I’ve discovered something that is holding me

In cycling there are several truisms we’d rather not hear about. The same answer fits each of these scenarios: Learning to ride clips Running into another rider Dropping a water bottle Falling off the pace Falling off the bike at speed. The answer in all cases: “Not ‘if,’ but ‘when.’” We’ve all done the “clips

This is a recurring theme in my life. Trying to decide if it is a good thing or a not-so-good thing. People come into and go out of each other’s lives with regularity. For the most part to fill a gap. To fill a need or solve an immediate issue. I seem to be a
