The PNW Adventure, Day 8: now we know there are angels among us

We knew the day was maybe not going to go to plan.

The night before we had put Jody’s sick bike in the back of the unmarked white van of the park ranger. Serena, the ranger, promised to deliver it to the bike shop in the morning.

Angel #1 makes her appearance.

As she was packing to prepare to go up to the road to hitchhike into town, the couple in the next site over offered Jody and her gear a ride into town.

Angels 2 and 3 (plus their dog, Frankie) had shown up.

Enter Angel #4: the bike mechanic. Not only did he have parts and could fix the derailleur today, he also helped Jody with her packing and reduced her load.

Meanwhile I was pedaling from camp to Friday Harbor. Just as I rolled up to the bike shop I intercepted Jody leaving. Timing is everything!

Onto the ferry and on to Lopez Island. We found our campground and changed our strategy. Camp here two nights with an out-and-back to Orcas. Just have to be strategic with the ferries.

Then a short bike tour of Lopez including stops for food, a bike shop and beer.

At the beach at sunset met Bill and Jane from Vancouver (AC) who had built their own kayaks.

Loaned a phone charger cable to Alphonse, a fellow camper and teacher from Seattle.

Sleep will come easy tonight.

Relentless
