Recognition Strategy: Giving Away Framed Photos

It started out as a way to engage my prospects and clients.  Pose for a photo with Harry, my Cairn Terrier, AKA Harry Discovers, in your place of business.  In return we posted the photo with a few links onto his website.

Then it got fun.

As an excuse to return and see the client again, I returned with a framed, 8×10 “autographed” (“paw-tographed?”) photo from the session.  My hope was that they would hang the photo in their place of business.  Many did.

In fact, our friends at Main Street Cafe in Downtown Garland (Texas), went so far as to hang the photo on a front wall of the dining room. It is by far the most prominent placement of a framed photo with Harry.  We’ve also been so lucky to have had our photo taken with a great group of people and businesses including:

With this experience and interest of business people posing with a dog, I thought of how to apply the lesson to a client.  The most effective part of the process was the printing and framing of the photos that became a follow up call.

Hey, Claire (Billingsley) might be willing to try this…and I was right.

At her monthly tapings of her TV program (“Coffee With Claire”), Claire does a stand up photo next to her show’s banner.  That photo is used in social media (live tweeting from the taping and during the broadcast of episodes, Facebook and on LinkedIn).  We also decided to print an 8 x 10 of each guest photo, have Claire personalize each with an autograph and note and then put them in simple frames. Our talented host then had an excuse to call on her guests with a gift.

The response has been interesting.  One guest received his framed photo at a networking event and promptly showed it off to anyone who would listen.  Another has it hung prominently in his office.

Gifts go a long way.  Personalized gifts go even further.  And gifts that are about your recipient are the best.  Remember, it’s not bout you.

Keep on giving.

Relentless
