Networking is a Contact Sport

Whether you believe it or not, networking is a contact sport.

Reaching out and touching someone comes in a bit of different fashion than the literal.  But “touch” can happen in a variety of ways, chief among them:

  • Eye contact
  • Handshakes.
  • Following up with your contacts.

Eye contact far and away is the best way of ensuring you will be believed and you will make connections. Eye contact conveys confidence, ensures memorability and creates the feeling that you are assured and men business.  Plus it makes you listen and pay attention.

Handshakes or physical contact (ok, hugs) are part of the equation, too.  The firmness of your handshake conveys your intentions and can set the tone for all that follows.

And following up with your contacts is of utmost importance.  If you don’t follow up and stay in contact, the initial contact will have been in vain.

So, are we all we all in agreement that networking is a contact sport?

Relentless
