With apologies to John Steinbeck, I’m borrowing his title “Travels with Charlie” for a few installments of this blog. As I (and, hopefully, you, dear reader) have discovered, my travel companion has really opened my eyes. And lots of doors. And broken the ice with lots of strangers.
You see, Sally, my Cairn Terrier, has done for me what Charlie, the Standard Poodle, did for Mr. Steinbeck.
Now, I haven’t resorted to packing Sal up in a camper and hitting the road (though we did come close last fall before we sold our Dallas house). However, since we arrived in Tucon and moved into our house here in July, Sal and I have discovered a fair amount of local culture, art, neighborhoods and the landscape of Tucson.
One thing we have done since we started our transition from Texas to Tucson last October is to discover and patronize local businesses. Breweries, coffee shops and bike shops were at the top of our list as those were our haunts in Dallas. So imagine our mirth when we found a place that combined two of those concepts.
Hello Bicycle is a bike shop with a coffee shop attached. Or is it a coffee shop with a bike shop beside it? However you look at it, the place combines two of our interests: bikes for me and a friendly coffee shop for Sal. And it is less than a mile from our new home.
Fresh-roasted coffee prepared in a variety of ways for the coffee aficionados among you as well as vegan and other pastries and treats are offered up. There is a common table as well as a sofa seating area. And there is art.
When in the Tucson area (or for my Tucson friends), be sure and patronize these folks on North Dodge Boulevard just south of the The Loop.
And take your dog with you if they are along with you.
Relentless
