The Loop Tour #2: Ridgewood to UCT to Katy to Santa Fe

The second in our connect-the-dots of the Dallas Loop Trail series.

We started at the Ridgewood end of the trail and headed into the city.  Across the UCT (University Crossing Trail) to Glencoe Park near SMU and on to the Katy Trail.  It really bridges the gap between the suburban and the urban–going from the “wide-open” trails near White Rock Lake into the city and down the very urban Katy Trail.

And we did it on a Sunday.  Probably the busiest day of the week on these trails.

After weaving our way down the Katy and into Downtown Dallas (near the West End), we chose to return back across the Santa Fe and onto White Rock Lake.  It was on the list, anyway, so why not? Besides it would give us some variety of terrain as well as sights.  And more plants, animals and vistas.

Besides plant life and waterways and parks, one can see a  variety of public art, particularly murals.  Artwork painted on walls holds a speacila place for me, something we will cover in more depth in another post.

Otherwise, this is a nice ramble from the lake to SMU and then to Downtown.  Back across Downtown to the Santa Fe gives one a perspective of the diversity of housing and life in the city.

Worth the trip, but, really, the most urban of the segments of the trail.  Do this one midweek on an empty afternoon.

Relentless
