It started as a way to stay in touch with my grandchildren in a distant city. Then the idea collided with a speeding object.
Harry. My Cairn Terrier. Seriously.
Each month I send a box of goodies to my oldest son’s three young children in St Paul. Besides being a fun thing for them to open it allows me to be real in their young lives. If there is a holiday, the kids each get a card signed by me. But early on I thought it would be fun to include a note and photo about what I had been up to.
A signed photo (“written ” and signed by Harry) is now a centerpiece of the package. Harry on the dock at the lake. Harry Downtown. Harry dressed as the Easter Bunny. Very personalized.
And we are thrilled when we make the “artwork wall” in the Minnesota Maynard house.
I’m sure the kids are more fixated on the goodies from the Dollar Store that are wrapped up for them. Or the candy I will include. But I’d like to think (and hope) they keep and remember their letters from “Uncle Dog,” Harry.
Relentless
