Business Cards, Again

This discussion never gets old.  Business cards are your best and simplest introduction and have staying power.

Take that, technology.

While there have been a number of people who have tried variations of dumping the traditional little white card (card-sized CDs, Palm-Pilot bumping, et al), nothing seems to replace the original “calling card.

So, beyond the usual don’t use coated paper, leave the back blank and make sure your contact info is marked clearly on the front, what can you do to set yourself apart with this age-old paper device?

Here are two ideas I saw lately:

  • A huge “Hello” on the face of a brightly colored card.  Memorable and a conversations starter.  This example was held by a job seeker and it got the recipient’s attention right away.  We’re still talking about it.
  • “The Grandma Rule.” One of a list of rules and characteristics a moving company lives by, it caught my eye and started a conversation with the owner.

Bottom line is don’t give up on these tiny ambassadors of your personal brand.  Use the billboard quality of them and spread your messages and themes with each outreach.

Relentless
