Replay: Working a Room

OK, I can’t resist: it’s holiday season and time to review working a room.  I was reminded of this as I spoke at my first holiday mixer of the year, the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers (DAYL) for the second year in a row, this time at Times 10 Cellars in the Lakewood neighborhood.

(Shameless plug zone ends here.)

Here’s my list of 10 simple guidelines to remember before you head out to the party circuit:

  1. Have a strategy.
  2. Network with high energy.
  3. Remember who your ideal prospect is.
  4. Pretend this is your home and you are the host.
  5. Be aware of body language (yours and others).
  6. Start conversations.
  7. Introduce people who can help each other.
  8. Appeal to the other person’s own interest (it is not about you).
  9. Move around and move on.
  10. Have fun!.

Keep things moving and enjoy the time.  don’t drink too much and try not to juggle food and engage people in serious conversation at the same time.

Happy holidays and happy networking!

Relentless
