Yesterday was a good day for networking. It started off with a presentation at Dallas’ Jewish Family Services to a group of job seekers. It was great hearing from them and having a great exchange of ideas on what works for networking as you go out into the work of work.
We talked about four things everybody needs to think about when they are networking into their next job:
- Strategy.
- Execution.
- Focusing on targets.
- The tools you can use.
When it comes to strategy, it is simple: have one. Know where you are going and to whom you will be talking.
You can’t have an effective strategy if you don’t implement it. Tools don’t work if you don’t have power to them.
Everybody needs targets. Know them seek them out, learn how to get to them effectively. And repeatedly.
Don’t jump to the tactic: the tools are there to use and used effectively. However, without a strong strategy in place, you can’t expect them to work. Know what you have at your disposal and keep them sharp.
Four simple guidelines for finding and keeping that next job. Thanks to Mitch Jacobs at JFS for pulling this together.
