Paying It Forward

We don’t do it enough: extend a kindness.  And it is really easy, too.

I was reminded of this while at the latest trade show I worked.  In New York for the National Retail Federation (NRF) I was interacting with lots of friends and colleagues.  A few ideas on how to be kind and thoughtful:

  • Sharing cabs, we took turns paying the fare.
  • Depending on who had cash, lunch was on me one time, I was the guest another.
  • Coffee for the team in the booth was an easy buy.

Our clients pay us and we’ll get these expenses back.  Our friends and business associates will take turns and remember the kindness this time.

On the other side, you will soon recognize someone who doesn’t return the kindness and takes advantage.  But, truly, that is rare.  Don’t do something expecting anything in return.  But when someone thanks you, say, “You’re welcome.  Hey, pay it forward.”

Kindness goes a long way.

Relentless
