As we’ve mentioned in this space before, Tucson and environs are teeming with murals and other works of art. Since returning to Southern Arizona in July 2024, I have personally seen almost 700 pieces of art.
However, today we are focusing on the murals.
What started this discussion was a conversation with my friend and fellow mural aficionado, Sherman. He suggested a rather cool idea: Why not collect, in one place, the links to online resources describing the city’s murals? With that, Sherman came up with this list to help find the 2-D works of art of we’ve grown to know and love:
- Mural Map Tucson shows locations, photos and has descriptions of 25 murals, mostly Downtown.
- Photographer BG Boyd created this searchable database. It features over 500 murals, many shot from above by drones.
- The Arizona Daily Star’s “Very Long List of Tucson Murals and Where to Find Them” is loaded with information.
- The Tucson Murals Blogspot has two iterations dating back to 2006:
- The late KOLD-TV anchor, Randy Garsee, started this blog. After his death in 2013, Jerry Peek took it over. It features articles, images, a map and over 2,000 entries.
- Jerry launched this updated blog recently to further curate the content. Jerry also has a website and manages a Facebook page dedicated to murals.
And there you have it. How about we call this list ” Sherm’s Seven?” While there are a number of ways to find murals in Tucson, it’s not often you find this many in one place.
Keep looking, finding and enjoying the art Tucson has to offer. These works of art are yet another way to embrace Tucson.
