Years ago, I worked for a corporate division headquartered in Mukilteo, Washington (State). The general manager’s office had a window with a view of the Olympic Mountain Range. It looked out, un impeded, over Puget Sound. When you walked into the office, it was like you were viewing a huge painting.
However, the ferry boats moving in the foreground belied it as reality.
Assigned as his “communications guy” for a special project, I had the good fortune to work with Gene. While he was an engineer and an executive, he was also a hiker, climber and mountaineer.
One day I walked into his office and he was standing, leaning on his desk looking out the window. His back to me as I entered the room. After a few quiet moments gazing upon the range, he began to name the peaks. And tell me which he had climbed.
That day inspires to this day. Now that I am retired and living in my hometown, I see a mountain range out my window each day.
My goal is to be able to name all of the peaks and features of the Santa Catalina range.
Thanks, Gene.
