We have a new ritual:
“The garbage man is here! The garbage man is here!”
Reminiscent of Steve Martin in “The Jerk:”
“The new phone book is here! The new phone book is here!”
Seriously, it starts our day and our week. Sally perches on the couch at the window in my office waiting for the refuse truck to come by and pick up our dumpster. I know it sounds simplistic and, again, dog-centric, but the truth is we all crave normalcy and routine to some degree. And a bit of excitement in every day things. Along with our ball game and my group walks and hikes, we have a calendar that shapes our weeks and lives. Not a bad thing, at all.
