The third expedition to map out The Loop Dallas.
This leg K2 and I started at Trinity Groves and took the Skyline to the Santa Fe Trestle. The idea was to connect up with the Trinity Forest leg we had done earlier.
Along the way we enjoyed a stop for lunch (and beer) at Manhattan Project Beer Company. Great food, great beer and a dog-friendly patio
An adventure worthy of deep travel versus wide travel. Not a lot of miles but a whole lot of fun.
Let’s dig into it.
It really was an adventure: we started out on a well-marked (with signs), concrete trail. Within a couple of miles we had reached gravel and had to choose whether we were going to ride on top of the berm or down in the river channel. We actually tried both until we came upon the intersection with the Trestle Trail.
What was interesting was as we approached it from the Dallas side, I recollected approaching it from the opposite side. That is, coming down that long hill after coming around the Longhorn Ballroom side off of Riverfront.
Even though we encountered gravel, mud and glass, we were able to navigate most of the nearly 10 miles we covered easily. It put us out into the riverbed and along the “shore.” As K2 pointed out, not a lot of wildlife or plant variety, but it did put the rider, hiker or runner out into the fresh air and into an area that city dwellers rarely encounter.
Probably the best way to conquer this segment of the trail and make sure we close this part of the loop is to start from the terminus of the Trinity Forest Trail.
More to come.
Relentless
