It wasn’t all that hard to assemble. It was a kit, after all. Besides, I had an almost identical one in my yard.
However she had asked for help. She had been moved into the small house by her church friends and was still sorting out her now-single life. At any rate, it was a simple task for my friend and cycling partner.
I built a simple platform in a spot in the yard. The kit went together easily. Loaded it up with her Christmas boxes and yard tools and we were done.
About halfway through the process she took me aside. She shared that it was the first project she’d ever done with a partner that wasn’t contentious. No battles, no blaming. We did it together without a fight, squabble or heavy discussion. And she was happy when we were done.
“So grateful for Paul who put together my backyard shed. I now have a place to put my lawn equipment!”
A fond memory but also a reminder to enjoy the moment. I didn’t get to keep the girl but I did fill a gap for her. I hope she looks back on that experience positively.
It was a nice moment.
