It’s what happens when you combine an athletic passion with digital technology and a touch of OCD?
You get athletes, particularly cyclists, driven to publish their riding stats.
“If it is not on Strava it didn’t happen,” isn’t really a joke. Think of all of the rides you’ve been on and recorded and shared. Mileage, speed, heart rate, elevation, cadence, who you rode with and so on. Data, data, data!
So who needs it?
It’s not really a matter of need as much as it is a want. You have to have it. A dopamine rush all by itself.
But is it really necessary? Lately I’ve met cyclists who have actually taken to leaving their Garmins, Wahoos and even their phones at home when they go for a ride.
Liberating, they say.
So which camp are you in?
We go by first names only in this program:
“Hi, my name is Paul and I’m a Stravaholic.”
Relentless
