Amazing What a Little Dog Can Do

My best friend and soulmate has left us. He’d lived a rich and full life and enriched mine beyond measure.
He left us much like he had arrived. Quietly and close. From the moment he joined me on my morning walk so many years ago until we finally parted, he was my closest and best friend.
We walked so many times together. Every morning to start our day and nearly every night to end them. We’d go out the door and I let him choose the route. It will be hard that first time without him to know where to go.
We traveled by car so many miles together. Tucson, Saint Paul, Nashville. We knew all the rest stops and gas stations wherever we went. He’d ride shotgun nearly every time we got in the car.
He met and befriended so many people. School children, bankers, coffee shop baristas, food pantry leaders and pie shop owners. His picture hangs in many businesses. He even made the cover of a magazine.
When Sally joined us he warmly welcomed his little sister. He was 11 years old, and she, 4 months. He taught her how to use the doggie door, potty trained her and helped her learn the ways of our household. And when he grew old and could no longer see or hear, she returned the favor and looked out for him. She will miss him dearly as he was with her nearly every day of her life.
He’s gone but will never be forgotten. His paw prints will remain on my heart forever. It is truly amazing what a little dog can do.
See you at the bridge, my dear friend. I love you, Harry.
