We are up to Day 5 at RAGBRAI. I never thought I’d think of a 48-mile ride as a cool down ride. But it worked after yesterday’s century. Mason City to Charles City, a pretty little burg on a river. A beautiful bridge to walk and ride over to and from the campground. Out at 6:45am and ito the overnight town by 2:00pm
Lutherans and Catholics cooperating, more pie, beer and ice cream. The secret is to fuel up when you have the opportunity. Great conversation with a Catholic priest and his (biological) sister from Des Moines. At the same table were ladies who had ridden with the Libertarian candidate for governor. Seems Rick is serving bloody Mary’s nad answering questions. We thought we’d surprise him with: “Hey, Rick, Chris says hi!”
Music by Elvis, Frankie Laine (“Rawhide”), and Sinatra (“Fly me to the moon…”), Eric Church, and Springsteen. All off the back of bikes in transit.
Looking forward to a smoother, relaxing evening. Met up with Mahomes, a Wheaton Cairn Terrier, on a porch on my way back to the campground. Another blessing of this trip!
Dinner with the Baptists and met friends from Interstate Batteries. Hi Beth!
Relentless
