Keeping Your Story Straight

If you are a fan of old television shows you may have run across reruns of “F Troop.”  The story of the misfits of Fort Courage is loaded with characters and with it, networking lessons.

Really?  Case in point: Trooper Duffy.

Duffy would go on about “when he was at the Little Big Horn with General Custer,” or “when I was fighting shoulder to shoulder with Davy (Crockett) at the Alamo….” At least he was consistent–he picked events and people who didn’t survive their situation. Veteran actor Bob Steele played the role well–he made himself memorable in this bit part after many years as a big- and small-screen cowboy.

Whether Duffy was truthful or not, is debatable.  However, he was consistent and said his peace with conviction and passion.

Fact is, you need to be passionate, consistent and truthful when presenting yourself.

  • The passion will make you stick out to people.
  • The consistency will spark the memory the next time you meet whomever you are speaking with.
  • And the truth, well, it’s the truth.  As an old friend used to say: “Always tell the truth–it’s easier to remember.”

So, be like Duffy by being consistent and passionate.  However, be sure you tell the truth.

Relentless
