OK, I can’t resist: it’s holiday season and time to review working a room. I was reminded of this as I spoke at my first holiday mixer of the year, the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers (DAYL) for the second year in a row, this time at Times 10 Cellars
in the Lakewood neighborhood.

Here’s my list of 10 simple guidelines to remember before you head out to the party circuit:
- Have a strategy.
- Network with high energy.
- Remember who your ideal prospect is.
- Pretend this is your home and you are the host.
- Be aware of body language (yours and others).
- Start conversations.
- Introduce people who can help each other.
- Appeal to the other person’s own interest (it is not about you).
- Move around and move on.
- Have fun!.
Keep things moving and enjoy the time. don’t drink too much and try not to juggle food and engage people in serious conversation at the same time.
