Got any 10s? Playing “Go Fish” by Phone

On a recent TV sitcom, one of the characters talked about having an on-going game of the card game “Go Fish” with his father in another state. Far fetched? Maybe.

The lesson is to stay in touch.

Clients, family or friends, we all need to stay connected. The crazy device of a kid’s card game or a remote chess game–the point is a connection and involvement.  Here are some examples:

  • Try “find them Fridays”.  Pick up the phone on Friday afternoon and call that person you haven’t seen or talked to in some time.  They may pick up.
  • E-mail Sunday mornings.  I have long-time friends that I stay connected with by sitting down to write a persona 1- or 2-paragraph e-mail note to on Sundays.  Sometimes the phone rings.
  • Watch a sporting event “together” via SMS or text. My youngest son and I have watched our shared alma mater basketball team for years this way. We either give score updates to the oen who can’t watch or we watch the game at the same time and trade comments via text.
  • Returning calls within 24 hours.  I have a client who says just that on his message–and then he does it.
  • Birthday and holiday cards. While this is annual, you are still in touch and remembered–and remembering.

Simple devices that keep things fresh and moving.

Relentless
